So long, farewell....

Morning all! Firstly apologies for not posting since August! We've recently moved house and as well as the general level of chaos that creates, were then internet-less for almost a month (how can it take sooooo long to connect your broadband up!?)

Sadly the reason for the post is to share the news that this is going to be my last update on All Things Blogged and Beautiful. Over the last couple of years I've been going through something of a 'quarter-life crisis' as far as my job is concerned. I've changed from being a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed graduate who lives to work, into a late-twenties weekend lover. The best way to sum it up is that I like rather than love my current career, and as the years go by I'm not sure 'like' is enough anymore.

But what else to do? Over the years I've had several 'dream jobs' - everything from journalism to forensic science and midwifery to air cabin crew! The one that keeps coming up however, is wedding and event planning. I realise there's a pretty huge financial risk attached to changing careers given that my events experience is pretty limited - but I've got a decent set of transferable skills behind me, coupled with shed loads of enthusiasm (and stubborness to mean that I'll blinking well keep at it until I succeed!). I also know I've reached a real 'now or never' point before mortgages and/or babies come along and make it a much bigger risk to take.

I've really enjoyed the last year of beauty blogging but I'm also being realistic. Setting up a business will require a lot of effort, particularly in terms of networking, PR and self-promotion so that's where my time will need to be spent, not to mention the fact that I'll have a lot less to spend on beauty buys. It could well be that I come back to this blog at some point in future but I can't be certain, and so I'd rather not make promises I can't keep :)

So all that's left to say is a tremendously huge thank you to each and every one of you who has  read or commented on my posts this last year - a blog really is nothing without the people who follow it so a big wave goodbye to you all.....and if you live in or near Berkshire and are in need of the services of an event or wedding planner I know just the person ;-)

Until next time?

Backpacking Beauty

The summer holiday period is in full swing which got me thinking about my previous holidays and in particular when I was lucky enough to travel around South East Asia/Australia a few years ago.

Backpacking can be a grubby business at times but just because you're living out of a rucksack and surviving solely on junk food, beer and the use of public transport, doesn't mean that you can't still look good doing it. I thought I'd share some of the beauty tips picked up on the trip - you could probably make use of them for any kind of holiday!
Sporting my rucksack :)
The first tip is a pretty obvious one which is to buy small airplane-friendly bottles and transfer your favorite products into them to save weight & space in your luggage. The best I've found are from IckleBockles - the name alone makes me happy!

♥♥♥

Lush solid shampoos will save you tons of space in your bag, last for up to 80 washes and won't leak all over your 'capsule' wardrobe.

Source
Baby wipes will become your best friend. Use them to cleanse your skin (& your make-up brushes if carrying them) and generally freshen yourself up on long journeys.

♥♥♥

Make the beach your beauty parlour. After a few months of  flip flops and filthy roads your feet may start to suffer so taking a stroll on a sandy beach will exfoliate them back into to tip top form. And embrace your inner surfer chick with salt water waves - just plait your hair loosely after a dip in the sea, loosen when dry and voila...

Source
Using a liquid bronzer can add a hint of colour to beat that just-stepped-off-the-plane-and-hideously-pasty-compared-to-everyone-else trauma and as your tan comes along you can mix it with your base for a more natural colour match  The obvious product choice would be Mac Lustre drops - I used Maybelline's Dream Bronze Bronzing Booster which is a great low-cost alternative but I haven't seen it in the shops for a while :(

When your diet/alcohol intake leaves a lot to be desired a supplement such as Berocca keeps your energy and vitamin levels up which will help keep skin and hair healthy.

♥♥♥

To save space carry cosmetic products that can work on eyes, lips and cheeks such as the Multipurpose Duo from Nars, Elf's All Over Colour Stick or an all-in-one compact like New CID's Eyes, Lips & Cheeks palette.
And last but not least, why not store it all in this kitsch travel-themed wash bag from Not on the High Street
Until next time,

My Hair History

I almost didn't write this post as looking back at photos made me realise my hair history is pretty boring. Its been mainly brown and mainly long. However some of the older pics I found were so hilarious I had to share them. So read on and prepare yourself for some utterly hideous 80's kiddy fashion.

Baby me...I included this pic to show that I started of life with CURLS...until they were chopped off during my first hair cut & never grew back :(

Next the hairdresser treated me to this lovely bowl-cut fringe, the damn thing was so disturbingly huge it gave me a massive fringe phobia. And what the feck is that jumper about??

A couple of years older and the fringe is gone but whilst the hair has improved the dress sense hadn't - check out the stunning dress and bolero combo from where else but...Tammy Girl.

Fast forward to the age of 15 and bob is back.  This picture shows my hair in its most natural state, its not curly or even wavy - just bulky and frizzy!

This snap was taken on my 16th birthday not long after I discovered the wonders of hair dye, straighteners and like most of humankind, French Connection logo t-shirts.

I started growing my hair shortly after the last pic until at its longest (about 4 years ago), it looked like this.

About 3 years ago I started getting my hair chemically straightened which along with a couple of inches trimmed off the bottom made it look like this.

Shortly after meeting the boy I had my hair cut and coloured into a darker, shoulder length bob which I promptly regretted - the style was just too blah and nothing-y. So back to growing it and a fair few dollops of Lee Stafford's hair growth mask...

...created my hair as it today. And yep that's a fringe - albeit a long, side swept one.

I've recently found myself lusting after a full fringe once again. Am thinking of investing in a clip in one a la Nicola to make sure I REALLY like it before I get snip-happy! If anyone has any recommendations for clip-in hair bits please holler!

Until next time,
